We are sad to inform you that our Language Editor, Mrs Muriel Marsh Mierzynska, died suddenly in December 1995. A Polish citizen of English nationality, she read mathematics at Oxford University and settled in Poland shortly after the war, after meeting a Polish serviceman in England. In addition to performing many translations for the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Silesia, for the official journal of the coal-mining industry, and for a local theatre, she devoted much time to making our mutual undertaking Acta Chromatographica a success, and was very proud that `‘AC'’ sounded very English. This truly extraordinary person will be sorely missed, as will her advice, her logical brain, and her enormous contribution to this journal.
